Lisbon spreads over steep hills above the Tagus, with a large stock of renovated apartments in traditional tiled buildings. Trams, the Metro and ferries link the historic quarters, and many longer-stay visitors base themselves slightly outside the centre for lower rents.

Short-term rentals need a local accommodation (Alojamento Local) registration number, and new registrations have been restricted in several central parishes.
- Lisbon issued no new alojamento local registrations after February 2025. A December 2025 amendment to the municipal regulation keeps new registrations banned in high-pressure parishes and adds a citywide stop once a set ratio is reached. (来源, 2025-12)
